The Power of Nightmares

July 22nd, 2008

Today’s Featured Article at wikipedia.org is The Power of Nightmares.

If you’re unfamiliar with the series of three hour-long documentary films, that’s probably because it has had limited exposure in the US. The reasons for this are obvious: it compares radical islam with neo-conservatism, showing how they are similar and feed off each other.

So be a good little mouse potato and go check it out!

Hi Guys. Anything Happen While I was Gone?

This is without a doubt the best web game named after a Pearl Jam song.

Vermont Towns Vote to Arrest Bush and Cheney

March 18th, 2008

Earlier this month two towns in southern Vermont voted to have Bush and Cheney arrested for “crimes against our Constitution,” should they ever be foolish enough to pay one of the towns a visit. Interestingly, Vermont is the only state in our union that Bush has not yet visited.

The votes were held on primary day, Tuesday, March 4th. In Brattleboro the measure passed 2,012 to 1,795, while in Marlboro the non-binding measure was approved in a town meeting by 43 to 25.

One wonders whether the arresting officers could find some reason to spend a minute or two waterboarding the two prior to prosecution, impeachment, or extradition. Perhaps then we could finally learn the truth about Iraq’s WMDs, Valerie Plame, the FBI’s wiretaps, etc.? More likely they’d just tell the interrogators what they want to hear, proving the technique’s uselessness.

The conservative response to the news is all too predictable. I personally am counting the days (308) until a new administration puts the current one out of the world’s misery.

King of the Baristas

March 12th, 2008

Everyone in Denver knows The Market (on Larimer), but did you know that The Market is also home to the best barista on the planet, Mr. Scott Barnes:
Barista Extraordinaire
It doesn’t hurt that The Market also has the best espresso in town.

NOTE: If you don’t see Scott behind the counter, turn around and march right down to the Tattered Cover or Evil Bean, lest you wind up with a cup of milk from some lesser wanna-be who should be working at Charbucks.

And there was much rejoicing at the second coming of TRACY

February 20th, 2008

So sayeth Juan the Pool Boy, aka Tracy, author of the now-famous WeeWar Greasemonkey Stats Script:

OK … wait no more … Pluto has fixed the problem. All you need to do is install the Big Map script. I could have cannibalized the code and pasted it into the Stats script, but it seems like leaving the two scripts as they are provides a better overall solution.

So go here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/13738 and
install the BigMap script and be watching for an update to the Stats script.
A couple of people have provided me with some updates that I will be adding into it soon.

As always, the latest can be found at http://9kinds.com/scripts/weewarstats.user.js

WeeWar, SchmeeWar

February 13th, 2008

While you’re patiently waiting for Tracy to redesign his Weewar stats script to be compliant with their new CSS-based layout, you can suffer TD-style with Protector (you should probably get a Kongregate login if you don’t have one).
Mega Time-Sink.
Damn you, Porkchop
