if the cool kids are so OVER myspace…
then yahoo is cooler than we thought.
see, i’m fairly certain that myspace only receives an average $0.10 cpm in advertising revenue and, as i’m sure you’ve noticed, most of their advertisers are screen savers, fart buttons and borderline porn video downloads which install spyware programs on the computers of innocent youngsters (ha ha). still, many little mom-and-pop sem shops use myspace profiles, blogs, comments, and mailings to spam or influence the kiddos to click over to their respective websites…i must confess that i’ve thought of trying it myself in the past with my personal stuff as the thought of all that lovely traffic going to waste hurts me on the inside. but if myspace traffic is a major source of your visitors, be warned - i’ve heard a rumour from a good source that ypn, aka the publishing powers at yahoo, is abruptly terminating sites who operate in this way because “the traffic is of bad quality.”
whatever…myspace gets high page views but if they get a lot of ad clicks with that target audience, i’ll eat my daytimer. still, it’s weird and even a little scary, as myspace has definitely been somewhat legitimized lately as a “true” site and not a link farm or spammy type site, no?
well, i guess there’s a first time for everything. but who are ypn and adwords going to target next? (cue ominous music here)
What are “fart buttons?” When people talk about myspace I always feel like a dummy because I spend all my spare time at wikipedia.org . Hmm, let’s see what they have to say about these “fart buttons….” Oh! Flatulence Humor, Prank Animations, Bad_Jokes_and_Other_Deleted_Nonsense/Body_Parts_Slang! Think I’l stick with the wikipedia for now, anyway, thankyouverymuch.
